What this is

These are the terms for using PrivatArkiv. They cover the website, the installable app and the services that belong to them.

This is a local development version. Commercial terms have not been published, and the text here should be read as a draft, not as a binding agreement. The terms have to be approved in a gate of their own before any external use.

What the service does

PrivatArkiv is a value and proof archive. Your device captures, analyses and encrypts. We anchor a checkable proof that the material existed at a point in time.

The service is not insurance, not a valuer and not a register of ownership. It documents integrity and time, and lets you present that documentation yourself.

Your account

You have to confirm your email address before the account can be used. Keeping your password to yourself is your responsibility.

A family account has an owner, administrators, members and viewers. Whoever invites decides the role. The role decides what the member can see and do, and is checked on the server on every request.

Keys and passphrases

Your archive passphrase encrypts your content. We do not know it, do not store it and cannot recover it.

If you lose both the passphrase and the recovery code, the content is out of reach for good. That is not a fault in the service; it is what zero-knowledge means. Keep the recovery code somewhere other than the device you use.

Price estimates

Prices are shown as a low, likely and high value with a stated source. This is an estimate, never a valuation.

Amounts are converted into the currency you chose. The source amount, its currency, the rate source and the time it was observed are kept and shown beside it, so you can check the arithmetic.

An estimate is not an offer, a guarantee or a basis for compensation. Your insurer makes its own assessment.

What a proof says

The Trust Standard Protocol is the whole trust and proof protocol. RFC 3161 timestamping is one technical component of it.

A proof binds a hash, a time, an algorithm and a verification basis. It says that particular bytes existed then, and that they have not changed since.

It says nothing about the content being true, the object existing physically, who owned it or what it was worth. If a seal fails, the content stays not sealed. You can verify a proof without us.

Use of the service

You may use PrivatArkiv to archive what you have the right to archive. You may not use it for unlawful material, or to get around the rights of others.

Because the content is encrypted on your device, we cannot see what you store. Responsibility for the content being lawful is therefore yours.

Availability

This version runs on one local machine. A level of availability has not been agreed, and there is no operational monitoring or support arrangement.

The status page checks the parts that have to work as you open it, but it is not monitoring and promises no uptime.

Keep your own copies of the recovery code and of any reports you need. An agreed level of availability has to be in place before the service is offered externally.

Liability

The service is provided as it is in this version.

We cannot be held liable for loss following a lost passphrase, a lost recovery code or a missing copy of your own. That is not a disclaimer but a technical fact: the content is encrypted with a key we do not hold.

Limits of liability for a commercial version are not settled and have to be agreed in writing with LexiCo AS before external use.

Changes

The terms may change. Changes that matter to you are to be announced well before they take effect.

The text here is versioned along with the rest of the content in the database, so it is possible to see what applied when.
